The male Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) has a beautiful brightly coloured pinkish-red underside. The female is more dull in colour, more beige-grey. They usually live in pairs or small groups in forests, parks and gardens. They are quite shy, which sometimes makes them difficult to spot. You can hear them though, they have a soft, whistling call that sounds somewhat melancholic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They eat mainly berries and seeds. In winter, they also eat the buds of trees, which does not always make them popular with fruit growers<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fun fact: In Dutch they call the Bullfinch a Goudvink (literally translated as Goldfinch), this is sometimes confusing because a goldfinch is of course in English a different bird!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
